In line with the foundational principles of equity among ruling houses in Emirates under the caliphate which naturally leads to peaceful coexistence and development of society as contained in Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio’s seminal work ‘Bayan Wujub Al-Hijra’ which was wholly adopted by Mallam Musa the first Fulani Emir of Zazzau, the 19th Emir of Zazzau His Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli has started making major appointments to promote peaceful coexistence and cooperation to keep to his promise of carrying everyone along in his reign.
The act also goes in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s charge which was contained in a personal message to the Emir in His Excellency’s speech at the coronation ceremony which held on 9th November 2020 and the call made to the Emir on his ascension to the throne by the Executive Governor of Kaduna state Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai to carry everyone along and ensure justice and equity during his reign.
In the new appointments the senior Titles of Sa’in Zazzau will go to the Katsinawa dynasty along with the Title of Talba and Barden Kudu. They will also retain the Title of Koguna.
The Mallawas will retain the Title of Magajin Gari and Barde Kerarriya and now have in addition the Title of Iyan Zazzau and Barde. The Beri Beri dynasty will have the most senior Title of Madakin Zazzau who is highest in ranking to all Title holders and normally reserved for the foremost Prince in the Emirate where the current Yeriman Zazzau has been promoted to occupy this post.
The Titles Holders of Kulliya and Durbi conferred by the late Emir Shehu Idris shortly before his passing were turbaned by HH Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli on the 12th of December 2020 and 1st of January 2021 respectively. The positions of Dan Iya, Yerima and a number of other Titles will be made in due course. The appointments will set out to achieve a fine balance, promoting equity and justice ensuring full participation for the benefit and development of the Emirate.
In keeping in line with His Highness’s vision of meeting the needs of a 21st century world for the Emirate while maintaining its cultural heritage, each appointee apart from their royal lineage and pedigree also have experience in both public and private sector thus expected to add to the debate and decisions around the table in bringing about much needed development to the zazzau Emirate.
The strategic nature of these appointments was made possible from His Highness’s wisdom, professional experience and administrative training, garnered over the years in various capacities in service to the fatherland and his involvement within the traditional institution for more than 2 decades of his life.
While totally coincidental, Interestingly the new Titles especially the most senior ones reflect the historical arrangement of Titles at the time of the first Emir of Zazzau Mallam Musa in 1804 where Mallam Musa (Bammalle) was Sarki, Mallam Yamusa (Beri-Beri) as Madaki and Mallam Abdulkarim (Katsinawa) the Sa’i.
There are still more titles soon to be made, but this now sets the stage for the new Emir to start implementing his new programme of development for the Emirate.
May Allah swt see to the unity of all ruling houses in the Emirate and promote peaceful coexistence and development. May Allah swt continue to provide His Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli the wisdom to steer the affairs of state at the palace. May His reign be long and successful. Amen.
