No fewer than 1,000 women and youths from Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency had benefited from empowerment programme organised by the National Centre for Women Development in collaboration with Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba commonly known as Mai Solar.

The beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme, which lasted for three days, got starter packs for their different trades on Thursday, October 1st 2020 at the Cenral Primary School Kontagora, Niger State.

They were trained in six trades namely Bees Making, Fish Farming, Poultry Farming, Modern Food Preservative Methods, Beads Making, Shoe Making, and Tailoring Fashion Design.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba, “Almost all the beneficiaries of today’s empowerment schemes were recently trained on Bees Making, Fish Farming, Poultry Farming, Modern Food Preservative Methods, Beads Making, and many more by experts under the guidance of National Centre for Women Development officers and today they are given a starter packs to go and start a better life with what they have learnt.”

Hon. Abdullahi said 167 fashion designers got sewing machines along with money funds, others also got shoe making machines, while 166 petty traders who were selected across every ward under our constituency to learn modern food preservative methods were given funds each to boost their trade.

He said, “The difference between this particular empowerment with those I used to do in the past is the number of beneficiaries involved in this.

“If you notice, the National Centre for Women Development is making serious difference in reducing unemployment in the society, especially in the last five years and it all goes down to the determination of President Muhammadu Buhari in ensuring that the masses and most especially unemployed youths and women are engaged in handiwork in the absence of white collar jobs.”
