No fewer than 16 persons were killed and scores injured in last week gunmen attacks at Ukuru village in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State
According to an eyewitness told Gulmawuya said on Aug. 12, at about 15:30 hours, the command was informed that gunmen invaded Ukuru Village, opened fire on the natives and rustled several cattle in the process.
He said that at the end of the shooting, 16 people were confirmed dead while five others sustained various degrees of injury.
He said that the injured were receiving treatment at Mariga General Hospital.
In the meantime, Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba (Mai Solar), the member representing Kontagora/Wishishi/Mariga/Mashegu Federal Constituency has commiserated with the victims.
“I wish to express my deep sorrow for all the victims of the recent insurgent attacks at Ukuru village in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger state.
I commiserate with the families of the deceased and pray that Allah grant us the strength to bear the loss and for those responding to treatment, I wish them speedy recovery. Eternal rest grant to them O Lord. May they rest in peace. R.I.P
I urge residents of that area to remain calm, vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agency in the area. I will also like to assure each and everyone on you that the Federal government and state government are doing their best in ensuring that the culprits are arrested and dealt with according to the laws of the land.” The member said in his condolence message.
