As part of measures to halt community transmission of Coronavirus in Niger State, the State Government said it will soon embark on extensive public enlightenment campaign and advocacy visit across all the twenty five local government areas of the State.
A statement issued by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman, Niger State Task Force on COVID-19 Pandemic, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane further explained that Government is expressing concern over the surge of Coronavirus cases in some parts of the State, hence the need to deploy more surveillance and advocacy with a view to curbing the spread of the virus.
According to the SSG, “it is disappointing that immediately the Governor announced easing of the lockdown imposed by the Government, people move around in public places without exercising caution despite the ravaging effects of the pandemic”.
The Chairman disclosed that the Task Force would aggressively enhance public enlightenment campaign and advocacy on the mandatory use of face mask/coverings for all persons going into public places, adherence to physical distancing by the general public, mandatory provision of hand washing facilities/sanitizers in business and other public premises and prohibition of mass gathering of more than 20 people among others.
Ahmed Matane pointed out that the campaign is to further increase awareness on symptoms, prevention and sample collection so that the people of the State will be fully equipped and well informed to combat the virus, especially at this critical stage of community transmission, stressing that everybody must take responsibility in the fight against Coronavirus.
The SSG expressed optimism that the fight against the virus will be won, if residents adhere strictly to the safety protocols of COVID-19.
